World Health Assembly approves push for salt iodization reports |

The World Health Assembly in Geneva has just approved -- unanimously -- a resolution offered by Peru that directs national health departments to report the status of their efforts to promote universal salt iodization (USI) every three years.� ICCIDD urged delegates to approve the resolution.
The ICCIDD welcomed the initiative of the Government of Peru which proposed a Resolution to the 60th World Health Assembly to recall the need for all Member States to report on achievements in achieving universal salt iodization (USI) and virtual elimination of IDD every three years. ICCIDD, through Regional Coordinators' actions, sought co sponsors and successfully contacted 17 Member States.
ICCIDD,having offical Consultative Status with the World Health Organization, spoke to the Resolution before the delegates assembled in Geneva. The Statement by the Chair of ICCIDD was made in the name of ICCIDD and of the Global Network for Sustained Iodine Nutrition.
